Inspect a mechanical STL before rebuilding it
Use Mesh3D to inspect a mechanical scan, choose cleanup operations and review the exported geometry.
Choose a suitable starting part
Mesh3D is a geometry inspection and rebuilding app from Codestripes LLC for macOS 14 or later. It is designed for mechanical scans such as brackets and housings, rather than character sculpting.
Keep the source scan and note the dimensions that matter for the part. Mesh3D leaves the imported original untouched and processes geometry locally. Its included bracket lets you explore the controls before working with your own scan.
Find the defects before choosing repairs
Open an STL, OBJ, PLY or USD file and inspect the reported issues. Mesh3D can identify holes, loose shells, flipped faces, non-manifold edges, self-intersections and thin areas. Select an issue to focus the 3D view and decide whether it is a defect you need to address.
Choose cleanup operations deliberately. Cleaning and welding, removing loose shells, denoising, remeshing and rebuilding watertight geometry have different effects. Resolution and operation settings influence the result; applying every operation is not automatically the best choice.
Compare the result with the source
After a rebuild, move the comparison divider to inspect the source and rebuilt part. Use the deviation heatmap and measurements in millimetres to examine where geometry changed. Pay particular attention to fitting surfaces, holes and thin areas that matter to your intended use.
Supported plane and cylinder detection can help restore mechanical shapes. Inspect the actual result rather than assuming those tools preserved every dimension. Undo and redo are available for rebuilds within the current session.
Review before exporting and slicing
Check dimensions, alignment, watertightness and wall information before exporting a new STL, 3MF, OBJ, PLY or USD file. Select the intended units, then inspect the output in your separate slicing software. Mesh3D prepares geometry; it does not slice or control a printer.
Rebuilding and export use the app's operation allowance and require Pro for continued use. A successful export alone does not establish that a part is suitable for printing or manufacturing. Quality depends on the source mesh, chosen settings and your output checks.
